COVID UPDATE

Parents, please read the following letter from Dr. Hinshaw.  We also ask you read the new self-screening checklist tool before sending students.

Many of our schools have been getting calls from parents who are anxious about rumours or misinformation they have heard about cases of COVID-19 being identified at one of our schools.

Northern Lights Public Schools, Alberta Health Services and the Alberta Government are committed to being as transparent as possible with respect to COVID-19 cases. If and when a case of COVID-19 is identified as being connected to one of our schools, the parents/guardians of that school will be notified as soon as possible.

There is a process in place for notifying parents included in the COVID-19 in school (K-12) settings document. Once Alberta Health Services informs us of a case connected to a school, we have a process we will be following to identify any potential close contacts of the individual who has tested positive, follow up with those students and parents, and then provide information with all students and parents at that school.

If you hear from someone in the community that there is a positive case at a particular school, but have not received any information from the school or Alberta Health Services, that means either Alberta Health Services has not yet completed their investigation and determined that the case is actually connected to that school, or the information you received is incorrect. If you are concerned about something you heard, please contact your child’s school directly.
